What is Depression?

Depression is a common mental health disorder that can negatively affect how a person feels, thinks, and behaves. It is more than just feeling sad or going through a rough patch, it is a persistent condition that can interfere with daily functioning, relationships, and overall quality of life. Symptoms often include prolonged sadness, loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed, changes in appetite and sleep patterns, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, feelings of worthlessness or guilt.

Depression can affect anyone, at anytime of their life, regardless of age, gender, or background.  Depression can be triggered by life events such as trauma, loss, or high stress can contribute to its onset.  There are many different types of depression.

Early recognition and intervention are key to managing depression effectively. With the right support and treatment, most people with depression can recover and lead fulfilling lives. It’s important to remember that depression is a medical condition, not a personal weakness.
